Combined Surgeries
Combined Surgeries

Combined surgeries, such as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, long limb Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch employ malabsorptive and restrictive methods.  The procedure restricts how much the stomach can hold while reducing how much it can absorb, however, it does so to a smaller extent than procedures which are exclusively malabsorptive.  The combination of these two types of procedures has proven to be a great formula for long term weight loss.  Combined procedures are the most commonly performed weight loss surgeries today, making up approximately 90% of all gastric bypass surgeries in the United States.
